The EP's title is a portmanteau of CTRL with M, signifying the personal touch she brings. While the influence is clear – with all the tracks sampling gems from SZA's Grammy-nominated masterwork – the EP is by no means just a bunch of covers, as Maka shows off her skill very nicely.
Overall, the body of work manages to take listeners on a very relatable journey, as Maka sings about dealing with a turbulent romance. Much like SZA's CTRL did, CTRL + M gives an honest depiction of heartbreak and healing, but with a decidedly more relatable Nigerian feel to it. Produced by Just Acoustic and Whonickt. Mixed and mastered by Bigfoot.
